1 The Organising Authority

The Organising Authority (OA) will be YACHT CLUB CROATIA – OPATIJA (YCC) and ADRIATIC CROATIA INTERNATIONAL CLUB d. d. OPATIJA (ACI).

2 Venue

The venue will be Split, Croatia.

3 Event Grading

ACI Match Race Cup 2008 is an ISAF Grade 1 event. This grading is subject to review by the ISAF Match Race Rankings Sub Committee. The event may be re-graded when there is clear reason to do so.

4 Provisional programme

4.1

  • Race office open from September 15th - at 8.00 a.m.
  • Registration from 8.00 a.m. until 8.00 p.m. on September 15th and on September 16th, 2008
  • Crew weighing from 9.00 a.m. until 10.00 a.m. on September 16th, 2008 and from 8.00 a.m. until 9.00 a.m. on September 17th, 2008
  • Practice from 11.00 a.m. until 4.00 p.m. on September 16th, 2008
  • First briefing at 10.00 a.m. on September 16th, 2008
  • First meeting with umpires at 5.00 p.m. on September 16th, 2008
  • Opening Ceremony at 8.30 p.m. on September 16th
  • Racing days from September 17th to September 20th and draw for boats each racing day at 9.00 a.m.
  • Time of the first race each day will be at 11.00 a.m.
  • Daily press conference 45 minutes after the last race of each day
  • Prize giving at 9.00 p.m. on September 20th, 2008
  • Departure day on September 21st 2008.

4.2 Unless excused by the organising authority, attendance at the following is mandatory:

  • Initial briefing for skippers.
  • Daily briefing, for skippers.
  • Daily press conferences, for skipper sailing that day.
  • Prize giving for skippers and crews, during which teams are requested to wear their team uniforms.
  • Sailing Pro-Am race. The OA may place VIP guest on each boat.

5 Skippers eligibility

  • 12 skippers will be invited. Only skippers invited by the organising authority will be eligible to enter this event.
  • The registered skipper shall helm the yacht at all times while racing, except in an emergency.
  • To remain eligible a skipper shall confirm acceptance of invitation in writing (fax or e-mail is acceptable) to be received by the date specified on the letter of invitation.
  • All competitors shall meet the eligibility requirements of ISAF regulation 19.2.
  • All competitors shall obtain an ISAF Sailor ID by registering online at www.sailing.org/isafsailor. Skippers shall inform the OA of their ISAF Sailor ID at registration.

6 Entries

6.1 The team shall be entered on completion of registration, crew weighing and the payment of all fees and deposits.

6.2 Entry Fee

A non-refundable entry fee of $US 1.000 shall be paid by August 1st 2008 through the bank: ERSTE UND STEIERMAERKISCHE BANK d.d., Jadranski trg 3a, 51000 Rijeka, Croatia SWIFT: ESBCHR22, foreign account No. 7030-3890210 for Jaht Klub Croatia, M. 6.3 Damage deposit

  • An initial damage deposit of 1.500 US$ shall be paid at registration (American Express, Visa, Diners and Eurocard-Mastercard credit card will be accepted (cheques will not be accepted). This deposit is the maximum payable by the skipper as a result of any one incident.
  • In the event that the Organising Authority decides a deduction from the damage deposit it may require that the deposit be restored to its original amount before the skipper will be permitted to continue in the event.
  • Any remaining deposit after the event will be refunded before departure, unless there is an outstanding damage that can not be invoiced before the damage has been paid. In such a case, the damage deposit will be paid upon repair of the damage.

7 Rules

7.1

  • The event will be governed by the rules as defined in the RRS, and including Appendix C.
  • The rules for the handling of boats will apply, and will also apply to any practice sailing and sponsor races. Class rules will not apply.
  • The Croatian Sailing Federation prescriptions will not apply.

7.2 Spare

7.3 An International Jury will be appointed, approved by the Croatian Sailing Federation, in accordance with RRS Appendix N.

8 Boats and Sails

  • The event will be sailed in Jeanneau One Design 35 boats.
  • Twelve (12) boats will be provided.
  • The following sails will be provided for each boat: Mainsail, Genoa, Jib, and Spinnaker.
  • Boats will be allocated by draw, either daily or for each round as decided by the Race Committee.

9 Crew (including skipper)

  • The number of crew (including skipper) shall be five (5). All registered crew shall sail all races.
  • The maximum total crew weight, determined prior to racing shall be 437,5 kg, when wearing at least shorts and shirts
  • When a registered skipper is unable to continue in the event the International Jury may authorise an original crewmember to substitute.
  • When a registered crew member is unable to continue in the event the International Jury may authorise a substitute, a temporary substitute or other adjustment.

10 Event format

10.110.1 Event format consists of: Double Round Robin, Semi Finals and Finals detailed in the sailing instructions.

10.2 The Organising Committee may change the format, terminate or eliminate any round, when conditions do not permit the completion of the intended format.

11 Course

  • The course will be windward/leeward with starboard roundings, finishing downwind.
  • The intended course area will be placed as close as possible to the ACI marina Split and a copy of chart will be included in SI.

12 Advertising

  • As boats and equipment will be supplied by the Organising Authority, ISAF regulation 20.3.2. applies. Each boat will be required to display advertising as supplied by the Organising Authority.
  • Competitors may be permitted to display advertising ashore at the venue, but this is subject to individual negotiation with the Organising Authority.
  • Boats shall not be permitted the right to protest for breaches of any rules regarding advertising (amends RRS 60.1)

13 Prizes

The principal prize will be the ACI Match race Cup Trophy. The total amount of prize money will be EUR 100.000 and distributed as follows:

  • First prize:     EUR 30.000       Fifth prize:       EUR 9.000

  • Second prize: EUR 20.000       Sixth prize:      EUR 8.000

  • Third prize:    EUR 15.000       Seventh prize:  EUR 5.000

  • Fourth prize:  EUR 10.000       Eighth prize:     EUR 3.000

Only the participating skippers, and not their crew members, are authorised to receive prizes personally at the prize giving ceremony.

These prizes have been approved by the national authority.

ISAF has been notified of these Prizes.

The Organising Authority may reduce a prize in the case of misconduct or refusal to comply with any reasonable request, including attendance at official functions.

14 Media, Images and Sound

The Organising Authority may require television personnel and equipment (or dummies) to be carried on board while racing and may require competitors to be available for interviews. The Organising Authority shall have the right to use any images and sound recorded during the event free of any charge.

Each team is requested to provide their national anthem on cassette tape or CD.

All those taking part in the event do so at their own risk. The Organising Authority, its associates and appointees accept no responsibility for any loss, damage, injury or inconvenience incurred, howsoever caused.

18 Invitations

Entries will only be accepted from invited skippers. If you wish to be invited please register your request for an invitation as soon as possible with the OA by completing the attached form.

19 Hotel accommodation and board

  • All participants will be offered accommodation in period from September 15thuntill September 21st 2008. Pick up service will be organized to the ACI marina Split Breakfast (September 16th – September 21st ), lunch package (September 16th – September 20th ) and dinner (September 15th – September 20th ) will be provided to all competitors.
  • The Organiser will arrange transfer from the airport to the accommodation facilities.
  • All social events will be free of charge.

20 Arrival and departure dates

All sailors are invited to arrive in Split on September 15th and are requested to arrive no later than September 16th at 9.00 a.m. Departure is foreseen for September 21st ,2008.
